Why Join ALLMI?
Applying for Membership
The Operators' Forum is a rapidly growing division of ALLMI and its purpose is to raise the standard of safety and professionalism amongst operators of lorry loaders. It actively serves and promotes its members, which range from some of the largest fleet owners in the UK to small local businesses, running just one or two vehicles (if you would like to see a list of Forum member companies, please click here). Membership of the Operators’ Forum will benefit your company in the following ways:
The benefits of Forum membership include:
Technical InformationALLMI's Technical and Training Committees consist of representatives from the UK's leading loader crane manufacturers and importers. Added to the fact that Forum members are able to draw upon the expertise of ALLMI's Technical Director, who has over 20 years’ experience in the lorry loader industry, this means that ALLMI can provide an unrivalled level of advice and guidance on all technical aspects of lorry loader use.
Technical Publications / Bulletins
Members have access to technical publications such as the ALLMI Code of Practice and the ALLMI Guidance Notes. Members also receive regular technical bulletins relating to issues affecting the industry.
Guidance & Consultation on Standards & Legislation Affecting the Industry
ALLMI has been instrumental in the writing of legislation and standards affecting the industry and was recently involved in the revision of both BS7121 Part 4, the British Standard for lorry loaders; and EN12999, which is the European Standard. Due to ALLMI's participation in this type of work, as well as its involvement with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), the loader crane manufacturers / importers and the British, European and International Loader Crane Standards Committees, Forum members not only have the opportunity to consult upon and possibly influence forthcoming changes in standards and legislation affecting the industry, they also have access to advice and guidance on all aspects of compliance.
Working in Partnership with the Health & Safety Executive
Representatives of the HSE sit on ALLMI's Training and Technical Committees, and therefore have valuable input into the standards and guidance that ALLMI develops for its members. In addition, HSE representatives also attend Forum General Meetings and have provided members with guidance on a variety of important issues. As well as having a strong relationship with the HSE, ALLMI also has close links with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), which can use ALLMI to inform operators of its requirements in relation to lorry loader inspections.
Lorry Loader Training Commended by the Health & Safety Executive
ALLMI runs the UK’s only lorry loader operator training programme to have been awarded the HSE's "Working in Partnership" commendation. Whilst both members and non-members have access to ALLMI training, Forum members also have the ability to contribute towards the development of the scheme via representation on the ALLMI Training Committee.
Discounts on Training & Consultancy
Forum members receive a significant discount on the cost of the ALLMI Appointed Person course, which is the only accredited training programme of its kind in the UK to be dedicated exclusively to lorry loader lifting operations. The course is fully compliant with the requirements of LOLER (Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations) and BS7121 Part 4: 2010. Members also receive a discount on the consultancy service offered by the Association.
Courses for Managers
Forum members have access to a range of courses for managers which help them to comply with the requirements of PUWER 9.2. Courses cover a wide range of subjects, such as the duties / responsibilities of the Appointed Person, thorough examinations / load tests, slinging / signalling and lorry loader operation.
Website Promotion & Facilities
All Forum members are promoted through the ALLMI website, which lists each company’s contact details together with information on the services they offer and a link to their company website. The website also features a password protected members' section which includes a download area containing documents from the HSE and VOSA, as well as all information coming from the Forum General Meetings and also legislation relevant to lorry loaders. In addition, the members' section also includes an online discussion area which allows members to raise issues and discuss common problems.
Members and training providers have exclusive access to banner advertising opportunities via the ALLMI website and ALLMI’s quarterly E-Newsletter.
Enhance Your Corporate Image
The ALLMI name is associated with safety, standards and quality, whether it’s in relation to training, crane installations and service, or the running of vehicles. Not only are members associated with ALLMI via its website promotion, but they are also able to utilise the ALLMI Vehicle Sticker (pictured right) and in addition, are provided with an annual Membership Certificate.
Operators' Forum members also benefit from a Buyers Co-operative which allows companies to utilise the group buying power within the Forum membership. The first product to be introduced by the Co-operative was insurance and many members have saved thousands of pounds on their premiums, as well as receiving improved levels of cover. The Buyers Co-operative has also expanded into business communications by utilising the services of industry specialist, Difference Corporation.
ALLMI holds two Operators' Forum General Meetings per year, which not only allow members to be updated on the latest issues affecting the industry, but also provide an excellent networking opportunity for all. Also, in addition to fleet owners, members of ALLMI include loader crane manufacturers, service companies and ancillary equipment manufacturers, and all member companies are promoted in the ALLMI Membership book which is published on an annual basis.
