On 4th December, ALLMI held its second General Meeting of 2012 for its manufacturer / service company members. Members were provided with updates on a range of issues, including increases in operator and Thorough Examination training levels, significant membership growth, Whole Vehicle Type Approval and the development of ALLMI's Crane Supervisor Course.

On 27th November, ALLMI held its second General Meeting of 2012 for its Operators' Forum division. As well as providing fleet owner members with a comprehensive update of the technical and legislative issues currently affecting the industry, ALLMI launched its new "Terms & Conditions for a Lifting Operation using a Lorry Loader" and facilitated a presentation on ground conditions and stabiliser pads, which was delivered by Mike Allanson of Universal Crane Mats Ltd.

Further to an amendment to Directive 2006/47/EC and also
extensive consultation with the Association’s members, ALLMI’s Whole Vehicle
Type Approval (WVTA) Working Group has been developing a revised guidance
document throughout 2012 and it recently launched the new information to the
industry.

The United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG) recently agreed to recognise the ALLMI operator card and to incorporate ALLMI training into its list of Accepted Record Schemes.

In 2010, ALLMI released a range
of one-day courses for managers which are designed to assist companies in
complying with their legal requirements under PUWER (Provision and Use of Work
Equipment Regulations) 9.2.

ALLMI’s latest market statistics
report indicates that the lorry loader industry continues to strengthen, with
the figures showing a significant increase in sales compared to the same period
for 2011.

ALLMI recently reported a 12%
increase in the uptake of its lorry loader operator programme, with the scheme
heading for its most successful year to date.

Further to a court case concerning a serious injury to a lorry loader operator,
ALLMI's recent General Meetings saw Ian Simpson, Principal Specialist Inspector
(Mechanical Engineering) for the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), deliver a
presentation on "The Importance of Slinger Training".

With nearly 2,000 incidents occurring every year in the UK, the issue of
"Bridge Bashing" is one which affects many aspects of the transport
industry. The use of lorry loaders is no exception to this, with the failure to
stow a loader crane correctly for travel having potentially fatal consequences.
|
|
Once
again using Vertikal Days as its platform, ALLMI held its “Operator of the
Year” competition at Haydock Park racecourse on 27th / 28th
June.
