ALLMI will soon hold its second General Meeting of 2012 for its manufacturer / service company members.
|
|
On 27th November, ALLMI will hold its second General Meeting of the year for its Operators’ Forum division. As well as providing members with a comprehensive update of the technical / legislative issues currently affecting the industry and launching ALLMI’s new ‘Terms & Conditions for a Lifting Operation using a Lorry Loader’, the meeting will also see members provided with a presentation on ground conditions and stabiliser pads by Mike Allanson of Universal Crane Mats Ltd.

Further to a final (pre-launch) Working Group meeting to review its “Terms & Conditions for a Lifting Operation using a Lorry Loader”, ALLMI is now preparing to officially release the document at its fleet owner General Meeting on 27th November.

As part of its presence at Vertikal Days, ALLMI held General Meetings for both
its manufacturer / service company members and its fleet owner members. On the
afternoon of 27th June, manufacturers / service companies were provided with
several presentations, starting with ALLMI Chairman, Mark Rigby, giving an
overview of everything the Association has achieved over the past 12 months.
CEO, Tom Wakefield, then went on to report on ALLMI's trading activities, which
included informing members of a 17% increase in membership for ALLMI's 2011/12
financial year, as well as increases of 5% and 120% in the uptake of ALLMI's
lorry loader training and Appointed Person training respectively.

|
For a sixth consecutive year, ALLMI's presence at Vertikal Days proved to be a huge success. Building significantly on the achievements of the previous five shows, the loader crane display in the ALLMI Village was by far the best one to date and it resulted in an impressive number of visitors from a wide range of industry sectors.
|
|
Further to an amendment to Directive 2006/47/EC, ALLMI will soon hold another
meeting of its Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) working group.

|
In February this year, ALLMI held the inaugural meeting of its Terms and
Conditions working group. Tasked with producing a standard set of
"Terms and Conditions for a Lifting Contract with a Lorry Loader",
the group has recently finished consulting on a first draft of the
document.

The ALLMI Technical
Committee has recently been involved in the consultation process for the
revision of ISO standard 15442 “Safety Requirements for Loader Cranes”.

new web driven database, a bespoke system which has been designed to facilitate
the processing of its operator training registrations.

ALLMI’s membership continues to
expand, with the Association experiencing 17% growth in 2011. One of the most
recent additions to the membership is the Royal Air Force, which has been
making full use of the Thorough Examination training now at its disposal.

|
ALLMI recently closed its 2011 financial year, yet again
recording impressive increases in its training activities. Uptake of ALLMI’s
lorry loader operator training increased by 5% compared to 2010, with
Thorough Examination training rising by 10%. Demand for the Association’s
Appointed Person course rose by a colossal 120% compared to the previous year
and Instructor training also experienced hugely impressive growth at 70%.

Compiled by an independent
third party and with the involvement of the vast majority of manufacturers
represented within the Association, ALLMI’s market statistics for 2011 show
signs of an improving situation in the UK loader crane industry.
|
|
ALLMI’s plans for 2012 include the development
of an accredited training programme for those fulfilling the role of Crane
Supervisor in lorry loader lifting operations. With initial pilot courses
planned to take place during quarter one of this year, the development of the
course is a natural follow on to the clarification of lifting team roles
provided by the latest version of BS7121 Part 4, and the successful launch of
ALLMI’s Appointed Person (AP) training in 2011.
|
|
During a recent General Meeting
of ALLMI’s manufacturer and repairer members, it was agreed that a Working
Group would be formed to discuss the issue of access to manufacturer software,
fault-finding codes and training.

ALLMI recently conducted
elections for its Board of Directors and Operators’ Forum Executive Committee.
|
|
Vertikal Days is the UK's only show dedicated to
the lifting equipment industry and ALLMI has already announced impressive plans
for an even stronger presence at the event in 2012. At 1200 square metres and
situated in a prime location, the “ALLMI Village” will be totally dedicated to
all aspects of the lorry loader industry.

As a result of a recent Operators' Forum Executive Committee meeting and further to discussions at previous General Meetings, ALLMI is now in the process of producing guidance for operators who perform work at height, with particular emphasis on the issue of using the loader crane as an anchoring point for fall arrest equipment.
|
|
Further to a recent meeting of the Operators’ Forum Executive Committee, ALLMI has decided to form a working group to look at the production of a standard set of “Terms and Conditions for a Lifting Contract with a Lorry Loader.” Heading the project is ALLMI’s Technical Director, Alan Johnson; he comments

ALLMI’s first ever "Operator of the Year" competition generated a great deal of interest at this year’s Vertikal Days. Situated within the ALLMI Village, entrants tested their operational ability in terms of accuracy, speed and safety, whilst negotiating the specially designed course.
The eventual winner was in fact ALLMI’s very own Technical Director, Alan Johnson, who completed the course in 6 minutes 39 seconds. He comments “the task was quite challenging given the course that was set out and the time penalties that could be incurred. Some very good operators had already put some great times in, so I was pleasantly surprised to have finished in first place”. Alan has subsequently donated the prize money to the Derbyshire Festival 2014 charity appeal which aims to raise £2 million pounds by 2014. |
